A Pride and Prejudice Story

We open this story in Kent shortly before Darcy and Colonel Fitzwilliam arrive for there anual visit to Rosings Park.

The first shift in the tale comes with Elizabeth being befriended by Anne DeBurgh.

Anne having watched Elizabeth's effects on Darcy and her vivacious banter with him and the Colonel, decides that Lizzy is just the person she needs to help her win the heart of her cousin Darcy ,who she tells Elizabeth that she has always loved deeply.

Lizzy questions Anne as to his suitability as a husband as she still has her prejudices firmly in place and Mr Wykham lies still are believed.

Anne shows Lizzy her letters from Georgiana  and puts her straight but this is not enough to change the outcome when Darcy proposes to her in a different venue but with the same result.

As far as Elizabeth is concerned she does not want to be part of a love triangle between Darcy, Anne and Herself caring for her new friend.

How is he going to get out of this one and win the woman he loves.

Darcy and the Young Knights Quest

A what if Pride and Prejudice variation that dares to go a bit further from the original than most while keeping the tone.

So, this Elizabeth crosses her Father and marries at seventeen against his wishes and is widowed not long after and left with a small Son.

Five years on she is back at home and agrees to marry a Mr Collins to save her family from disaster due to the entail on the estate.

Mr Darcy meets a small boy obsessed with the Knights of the Round Table and heroic deeds and becomes his King Arthur, charmed by the boys spirit they become friends.

And, just to make things just a bit more impossible for Elizabeth and Darcy to get together.

Anne De Bourgh will have Mr Darcy for her Husband or die trying.

With all these difficulties you would think the couple would never be able to overcome all the obstacles and come together.

This story I found to be quite compulsive, I could not put it down and had to keep reading all the way to the end.

The Perfect Bride For Mr Darcy by Mary Lydon Simonsen

Mr Darcy obviously needs a good matchmaker... or two...

I started this book with huge expectations having really enjoyed Searching for Pemberly by the same author.

The Perfect Bride for Mr Darcy is another rerun of Pride and Prejudice but with some added characters. Central to the story is a plot with Anne de Bourgh who has with Georgianas help to try and make sure the stubborn  Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy get together and mend their differences.

Anne De Bourgh though very frail is very determined to help the cause of true love along, even when it means hours spent in tiring journeys and plenty of subterfuge.

Georgiana is a fairly bubbly and enthusiastic teenage only too keen to find the romance in any situation, with a huge love of the gothic novel (as an aspiring author herself) she is keen to have Elizabeth and her support as a permanent part of her family.

In this version Charles Bingley has a much larger family including an older brother who is a bit of a financial genius and aides Darcy as his partner in this search for Wickham and Lydia.

The other notable characters are Darcy’s ex-girl friends who turn up like bad pennies and Colonel Fitzwilliam’s older brother who is a total lush with a cutting tongue (not the first choice at a family re-union)

There is plenty in here to make it worth a read but I still feel that for me Searching for Pemberley is the better book. Read both & let me know what you think.

Pride and Prejudice Continues...

Georgiana Darcy grows up and goes in pursuit of happiness and true love, much to her big brothers consternation

Yes, Yes, Yes. This is right up my street, great story, nice character interaction, good historical details and fast moving plots with some suspenseful moments.

Obviously, Georgiana tells this tale of her brothers marriage and her first season as she comes out as a debutant and is presented at Court to the Prince Regent.

A major issue for such a shy young lady but after a very harrowing and frightening ordeal, she finds herself to be far more courageous than she ever realised.

She also has her eyes opened to love, lot’s of nice little touches like Lord Byron and a nod to the Scarlett Pimpernel.

A real flavor of the period suffuses throughout this book, it especially highlights the disparity in woman’s rights. that the men could get away with doing almost anything to women and they and they and their families could do nothing about it as, the scandal of anyone finding out was even more damaging to the women and her family.

Being a young lady with a large dowery or title and estate  as is the case of Anne De Bourgh, with a minefield of potential fortune hunters and dissolute bad guys. And bad guys in this book are really pretty dam nasty.

This book has definitely leapfrogged up my list of Jane Austen Prequels and Sequels and is happily nestling near the very top.

C. Allyn Pierson (who also writes as Carey A. Bligard) will write more sequels as I for one will happily buy them and enjoy reading them.
